BONE NUIT
second edition
A genre-elusive collection of poems and doodles was meant to be enjoyed in the silent eves of October, one each night, until you are drowned in the glow of Halloween.
You’ll read whimsical stories about haunted forests, terrifying tales of carnivores in carnivals, love stories about gothic queens and pumpkin kings, mythical retellings of Greek fables, as well as darker reflections on depression and life after death.
The inspiration behind Bone Nuit
Bone Nuit is a play on the french phrase bonne nuit, meaning good night. I wrote my first poem for this book in a cafe in Portland, OR, inspired by the complex duality of Halloween. Celebrating the things in life that scare us. Tinkering with themes that are objectively horrible yet come to life in playful and creative ways.
As I developed the book, I was also navigating a lot of personal experiences that gave me windows into complex emotions like grief, depression, death, and fear. This became a merging point of the book for me. Where the playful, celebratory stories of Halloween met the fears and angst that have inspired them for centuries As readers make their way through the book, they join me in my journey through this fundamentally human struggle.
The Art in Bone Nuit
When I first began writing Bone Nuit, I was focused on the poetry alone. I’ve always been a writer and knew what I wanted to produce for this little collection. I anticipated needing to find an artist or several artists to draw the accompanying art. But as a filler, I doodled some of my own. As time went on, I grew a connection to a style I didn’t realize I had and ultimately, these are the pieces that have stayed in Bone Nuit.

Second Edition
I created a second edition of Bone Nuit to make some adjustments to the flow of the book. There were a few poems and drawings in the first book that felt like they didn’t quite fit in, rhythmically and thematically. Although you can still purchase the first edition exclusively through Barnes & Noble, the second edition is my intended version for readers now. And who knows, a third edition may show up at some point.
